China, Crystal, and Silver..Oh My!

4:00:00 AM

After yesterday's post, everyone is an expert on Fine China! That's a win if I've ever heard one! Now that China is on your mind, the china cabinet is the next step. A china cabinet is like a trophy case to an athlete. It is a beautiful piece of furniture that showcases some of my favorite "fancy" dining room pieces. The wonderful thing about a china cabinet is there are no rules! None!! You can interpret the china cabinet idea in whatever way you desire! With that nugget of knowledge, your china cabinet can house your china, vases, crystal ice buckets, decanters, crystal glasses, etc. Basically anything that needs to be kept in a safe place or not used for daily life can go in the cabinet.

Currently, in my china cabinet I have an array of items. Everything has a special place in there and I really like the way it looks when I walk by. I feature the china as the main part, of course, yet I do add other pieces to make it more visually appealing.

One of the favorite parts of the cabinet is our cake cutting knife, cake server, and toasting flutes from our wedding. We received this stunning wedding present that is a Tiffany & Co crystal plate with our invitation engraved on it. It's the perfect centerpiece for the cabinet, because it's extremely personal to us and drop dead stunning. Like I stressed prior, you really can put anything you want in the cabinet. I think that's the beauty of it all. No one's cabinet will ever look exactly the same. Perfection!

Kate Spade made our wedding set

Vases make great additions to the cabinet. If you want to add a chic and classic vase, I suggest the Monique Lhuillier Sunday Rose bowl. This bowl is so intricate and exquisite.  I opted to add a plum vase to the cabinet from Target, which looks just as expensive as anything else already in there! I found a similar vase that is a gorgeous aqua color and very affordable. The ruffle shape and the gold colors through out the vase really pop in a china cabinet. Like my coffee table books, I like to change the things out seasonally. For my birthday last month, one of my presents was the Kate Spade gold polka dot vase! (yes, I love Kate Spade home stuff. And yes, I talk about her a lot) I have changed out the plum vase for the polka dot vase! Love the way it ties in the gold on the china and the crystal of all the other things.

The Rose Bowl is so exquisite

Gold polka dots!

For the other items I have in the cabinet, I have a Pottery Barn square decanter monogrammed with a J and two crystal candle sticks. The decanter is only $31 which is such a steal for a good decanter, plus the PB website has a 15% off coupon available! The candlesticks are such a steal! They are Godinger and crystal, but only $20 regularly. But they are on sale for $9.99! Literally cannot beat that price. You could always incorporate a fun lotus shape crystal candle holders too! A pop of color, shapes, patterns really do go a long way and stand out in the cabinet.

Whatever you choose to add, just make sure it makes you happy. Every piece I choose is carefully handpicked and everything brings a smile to my face when I look at it. Tomorrow, my husband, Tyler, is doing a piece on how to find, restore, and fix up a china cabinet! He did a fabulous job on ours and has great tips on a DIY project!

    1. One of the biggest things to consider is "will I like this pattern 50 years from now". I picked out a very trendy piece that I love right now, but when I host dinner for my children and their future in-laws and spouses, I don't think I'd like that for that long. ( and that's a loooooonnnggg time in the future) I think something important is to pick something reasonable too. My husband's cousin picked a set that was $700..outrageous. She didn't get many pieces due to the price! And lastly, love it and make sure it's easy to take care of!! I love classic pieces and I love how easy these are!
