Let's Build a Library!

4:00:00 AM

Ever since I saw Beauty and the Beast's iconic library scene, I have always wanted a library. Not just a library full of books I've never read, but bookshelves full of books I've enjoyed and poured my time into. So I think it's a good idea to share my thoughts on how to build the most beautiful library.

First, let's start with books. In my own collection, I have books like, The Divergent Series, The Selection Series, a massive book filled with F. Scott Fitzgerald stories, romances, party planning books, and mysteries! I could go on and on and on with the members of my book collection, because I really love to read and find new things to bide my time with. Whatever you love and whatever you read, gather them together and get them ready to be displayed! If you want to add books you have not read yet, totally fine! Do whatever you want, because after all it is your library!

Second, find a shelf type place to put the books together in. Go for a standard bookcase, a funky bookshelf, or my current favorite cube shelves. A stable bookcase is also really important for this endeavor. You don't want to stack heavy books on a shelf that may tip over if it gets too heavy. I'll just let you know from a first hand experience..it's a bad idea. I would personally go for a bookshelf that you will love for a long time. These pieces of furniture normally cost some money so it's important to pick something that will look fabulous for a long time. Now that we have the books and the shelves..let's add some comfy chairs.

Third, how can you have a library without somewhere cozy to sit? Currently in my library room I have two leather arm chairs that we found at a garage sale! They are super cute and so totally library chic. Hit up garage sales, your town's local yard sale Facebook page, a flea market, or a store to find cute furniture for the room. Make sure they are comfortable so that reading in them can be somewhere to retreat to and be comfortable. A wingback chair is a very classic choice or a chair with a bold print would make the library more fashionable. I am DYING (and I really mean dying) for this drop dead gorgeous chair from Macy's. I'm must find a place for this beauty, because I am not sure I can live without it for too much longer.

With these basic library building blocks, we can make a library. Tomorrow on the blog, I'll discuss ways to creatively take a basic library to a whole new level. See y'all tomorrow!

  13. I convinced my parents to get me a bookshelf for my new apartment this year, and I'm slowly building my own library! My boyfriend isn't too happy about the number of books we'll have to move, but oh well! I can't wait to have a little reading area for myself & my family!

  18. I would love to have a bookcase when I have my own apartment someday! Not sure how that would work out for me though because I never buy books and always get them from the library instead ... I read them too fast to keep buying more ;)

  19. What fun!! When I moved here I was forced to giveaway all my books so sadly I lost my library but I am definitely in the process of rebuilding. Bookcases, cute book ends, and amazing books are definitely the fundamentals.

  20. So funny, I always said I would have a library once I had my own home, too. Someday! All your ideas are awesome, especially that you mentioned cube bookshelves, which may make more sense for younger bloggers and/or college students working with tight spaces.

I'd love to check out some pics of your library if you'll post them!
