A Modern Love Story

8:30:00 AM

Yesterday, I shared a bit of the past with some of my favorite wedding photos! I got a lot of wishes for me to share my love story and even share a few tips about long distance relationships. So, I decided it was a fun way for everyone to get to know me and my husband a little better!

About 4 years ago, Tyler and I were tweeting at an anonymous account name Belle Rants. She wanted someone to cheer her up and it so happened Tyler and I participated that evening. We both were mentioned in the same tweet and he gave me a follow after that. Neither of us knew who she was, but now she is a good friend of ours and we even invited her to our wedding! Any who, Tyler recognized my sorority and I knew what Belmont University was. We chatted and DM'd for about a month before we finally decided to video chat. I got all dressed up and my hair done by some of the girls in the house! I looked so pretty and I'm glad I made all that effort. When I first saw his beautiful face all I could do was giggle. I tend to giggle when I feel awkward, but he loved it. He was so kind and pretty quiet, but I knew I liked him. We continued to video chat for a month or so and finally we decided to meet in person.

My Profile Picture at the time!

In February, T drove out to Oklahoma, where I was going to school, from Nashville. It was a 10 hour drive and I knew he was really serious about meeting me. My best friend sat with me all evening before I met him. I was panicking and I was really excited to meet him! Before you gasp with shock of why would she ever meet this guy in person?! I made sure everyone knew where I was at all times and if I ever felt unsure my best friend was not far away. When I arrived at the spot, I was terrified. I totally ran and hid, because I was shaking! My best friend texted him I was outside hiding and I'm so grateful she did. I don't think I would have ever went in there if it wasn't for her. We finally met and holy cow I pretty much knew right then I wanted to be with this guy forever.

Our FIRST Picture Together!

So after he asked me out on February 18, 2012, we started the dreaded long distance relationship. We were fortunate enough to be able to see each other about every other month or sometimes once a month. He came and visited me and met my family in May. That was such an important meet, because my family means so much to me! He and I traveled down to San Antonio for a fun little trip! That summer we didn't get to see a lot of each other. It was really tough, but w made it! We ended the summer up in Nashville with a nice dinner at Union Station. I was about to head to Italy for 5 months, so we would not get to see each other at all. We knew that if we could make it through limited communication and nothing but an occasional Skype call, we were meant to be together.

In August, I jetted off to Italy and we became masters of the LDR. He was my absolute rock while I was over there. I wanted to come home so bad, I've never felt so homesick and miserable. He and my family really stood strong and pretty much forced me to stay and enjoy. Good thing I did, Italy was incredible. Tyler never ceased to amaze me while I was over there. He sent me roses one to day to cheer me up and let me know he was thinking of me! He would send me little things to keep my mind off of being homesick. We really figured out communication, because when that's all you have, you take full advantage.

The roses

After a long 5 months, I finally came back! And from there we made the best of our long distance situation. Some of my tips for LDR's is find things to do together at the same time. One of our favorites was to watch a Netflix movie together from Nashville and Norman, but share our thoughts through out. We also wrote a lot of letters. I think handwritten letters are so underrated, so I wrote him and he wrote me back. We talked a lot, but the key is we didn't let being sad or missing someone interfere with our lives we were living. I had friends and things going on in Norman and he had things to do in Nashville. We lived and talked and shared. An important tip I think is to always share how you're feeling about things. Honesty is so important and in an LDR there is no room for jealousy. I totally understand it's crazy difficult, because all you want to do is be with them! Also, don't be afraid of having an argument or fight. It's such a good way to learn some communication and will make you stronger in the end. If you do little or big things that incorporate your love into your daily life, then the LDR will fly by! I swear it! When Tyler and I finally moved in together, life seemed to mesh together pretty easy. I mean, we still have had bumps and disagreements, but it makes life worth it. All that time spent apart, now we get to see each other whenever and wherever. It's the best end goal there is.

Our First Dating Anniversary!

Tyler asked me to marry him on November 27, 2013. He knows I love historic hotels, so he asked me at the Melrose Hotel in Dallas. He had all my family there and even my best friend! It was such a wonderfully perfect moment in my life and it was only bested by our wedding day.

My mom took this shot!

So here you go, my love story in a nutshell and a lot of pictures that represent some of the beautiful moments from our relationship. From meeting on Twitter to saying I Do, it has all been worth it. All the arguments, love, hugs, smiles, joy has created the most lovely love story in our life.
